Dr. Helm is a wildlife biologist, botanist, and ecologist, who specializes in wetland ecology with nearly 25 years of experience assisting clients in complying with wetland and endangered species laws and regulations. He is a leading expert in the ecology of California seasonally inundated wetlands, in particular vernal pools. Over the last 20 years roughly 90% of his works has involved vernal pools. His expertise has been derived by conducting extensive large branchiopod (i.e., fairy shrimp, tadpole shrimp, and clam shrimp) surveys, rare plant surveys, hydrologic monitoring, mitigation monitoring (i.e., plants, wildlife, and hydrology), and wetland delineation studies in vernal pools.
